Have you ever paused to consider how the words ‘reset, ‘update’ and upgrade can transform our walk with Christ? So, what do these three words truly represent and how do they relate to our everyday lives? To reset it means to set again, to start over, or begin anew.

Update is to make something suitable for use now by adding new information, changing its design, or incorporating new parts or knowledge. And an upgrade is to raise something to a higher standard; in particular, to improve.

In the Bible, we are reminded that we were created for God’s pleasure. As Revelation 4:11 (KJV) says:

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

God made you. You didn’t make yourself. He knows the best path for your life. He sees you, knows you, and formed you in your mother’s womb for a specific purpose. And when we stray from that path, when we try to find our own way, our Shepherd is there to find us.

In Matthew 18:12 (NIV), Jesus tells us:

“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?”

This is a powerful reminder that no matter how far we wander, God will always come searching for us. But how can we experience this divine reset?

Consider the Apostle Paul. In Acts 9:1-5, we see him on his way to Damascus when a great light struck him. Sometimes, for us to see the way, we must first experience a reset. This requires us to stop resisting and to allow God to work in and through us in order to fulfil his good pleasure, and to trust that he alone can guide us on the right path.

Many people attempt to reset their lives – they seek to start over, discover their true selves, or update their lives with worldly information. They may focus on health goals, personal growth, or meditation, but they often forget the One who created them. Only God, our Creator, can truly lead, guide, and protect us. He is the one who alone can set us on the path that aligns with His will and brings glory to His name.

Did you know that God places His reputation on the line for His sheep? He ensures that they do not go astray. Because He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and what He desires for you is both good and true.

As Proverbs 14:12 (NKJV) warns:

“There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”

We can try to reset or update our lives in countless ways, but without God, we are merely chasing our own ideas of what’s best. Only by submitting to His will and trusting in His guidance can we truly experience the reset and upgrade that brings us into alignment with His divine purpose.

Upgrade: God doesn’t just want us to reset, but also to upgrade — to raise our lives to a higher standard, to improve and grow in ways that reflect His glory. Just as we would update a device to make it more efficient or enhance its capabilities, God desires to raise us up to a higher level of living. This is an upgrade that goes beyond the temporary things of this world; it’s a divine transformation. By surrendering to God’s plan, we allow Him to improve and elevate us, making us more capable of fulfilling the purpose He created us for.

As we walk in His guidance, He enables us to rise above the patterns of the world, aligning us with His higher calling. The upgrade isn’t about personal achievement or success, but about becoming more like Christ and living a life that brings Him glory.

Prayer:

Lord, in any way that I have strayed from the original path You created for me to walk in and bring You pleasure, I ask that You reset me. Open my eyes to see, just like You did for Paul, who You are and what You would have me do. I surrender my ways to You and trust that Your guidance will lead me to the life You’ve planned for me. Thank You for being my Shepherd, always seeking to bring me back when I wander. Help me not just to reset, but to upgrade my life according to Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
