“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy, he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you” 1 Peter 1:3-4, NIV

A year after my grandma died, I was told she left me something. I was very excited and eager to know and see what it was. When I had the opportunity to travel to visit my parents I asked for it. When I saw what she gave me I was filled with so much joy and time after time I would ask if they were still intact. I claimed my inheritance! We have received an inheritance from God our Father that we need to claim!

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew‬ ‭6:33 ‭NKJV‬‬

Claiming our inheritance starts with us having a relationship with Him. Without a relationship with Him, we would not have an understanding of the inheritance we have in Him. The more we fellowship with Him and study His Word, the more He reveals what is ours to claim. His Word reveals and unveils our inheritance.

“Jesus has the power of God. And his power has given us everything we need to live a life devoted to God. We have these things because we know him. Jesus chose us by his glory and goodness, through which he also gave us the very great and rich gifts that he promised us. With these gifts, you can share in being like God. And so you will escape the ruin that comes to people in the world because of the evil things they want.” 2 Peter‬ ‭1:3-4‬ ‭ERV‬‬

There are so many gifts the Father has given us that we are yet to receive. We need to know and receive these gifts by faith. We are joint-heirs with Christ, as such, we have access to everything He is entitled to and so we need to boldly claim everything that rightfully belongs to us. We need to know what His Word says and find out what belongs to us so that we can take possession of it and claim it. After all, we can’t claim what we don’t know belongs to us!

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the [Holy] Spirit who is from God, so that we may know and understand the [wonderful] things freely given to us by God.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:12‬ ‭AMP‬‬

The beautiful thing is that we can know the things that have been freely given to us by God. The Holy Spirit is available to all of us who have received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. He is ever willing to reveal to us the inheritance we have in Christ. We cannot know these free gifts with our own understanding that’s why we need the help of the Holy Spirit to help us discern these things. He will teach any yielding believer in the things of the Spirit.

The more we grow spiritually, the more we get to know the things that have been freely given to us by God. The more we know and receive the things that have been freely given us by God, the more effective we will be in our purpose.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Claiming our inheritance requires us having the courage to confront the “giants” that seem to block our path and try to prevent us from possessing what God has already given us. He has given us everything we need to live a life devoted to Him. His will for us is health, prosperity, peace, sound mind, hope, and every good thing we desire according to His will. The devil’s will is to cause you sickness, anxiety, poverty, and fear. The enemy is also keen on destroying our relationship with God. He has given us all the tools we need to win the battle. We can overcome the enemy and experience victory over these circumstances in our lives!

What will you choose to do? Will, you set aside fear, unbelief and discouragement and claim your inheritance? The choice is yours.
